Popular Culture

The University of Chicago has been featured in several films, including:

When Harry Met Sally... – Harry and Sally were undergraduate students at the University of Chicago and met at the university gates.

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark – Indiana Jones was a student at Chicago and eventually became a Chicago professor.

My Best Friend's Wedding – Cameron Diaz's character was also a student at Chicago and was seen wearing a University of Chicago sweatshirt.

Proof – The entire story unfolds at the University of Chicago and Hyde Park, in particular.

The Fugitive – The university's hospital is the setting for portions of the film's plot, including a scene in which Harrison Ford's character performs a surgical procedure.

The Core – Aaron Eckhart's character is a professor at the university.

Chain Reaction – The film is about fictional nuclear fusion research at the University of Chicago.

Alfred Hitchcock's Rope was loosely based on the story of two wealthy University of Chicago students, Leopold and Loeb.

The University of Chicago has also appeared (directly or indirectly) in several television series:

Rebecca Jarvis, the runner-up on the fourth season of The Apprentice, graduated from the University of Chicago in 2003 with a B.A. in Economics.

The helicopter used for ER (which was set in Chicago) was owned by the University of Chicago Hospitals.

Mia Kirshner's character in The L Word graduated from the University of Chicago.

Daniel Jackson, a fictional character on the television series Stargate SG-1, also graduated from the University of Chicago.
