What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

Oislan, Flaming June
That intoxicating voice, the black night sky, the air thick with narcissus. When she closed her eyes, she could taste it like a strawberry dipped in fresh cream.Saturday, May 19, 2007

Books are my salvation. When I read, and read ferociously, the angry thoughts in my head, all full of loathing and hatred, melt away. I am left with hope, understanding, and optimism for the future. Full of what I have learned, yearning for more. Without books I could wallow in despair, wither away, endlessly. Reading has given me new life. Thank you Mrs. Rasmussen.

I haven't written in a while
Shit happened and I didn't want to. But there have been some things on my mind that I haven't had a space for, and so I return. I've been thinking about ...Britney
Everyone knows about my obsession with Brit. She's the same age as me, and to me she has always represented the amazing self-marketed perseverance of my generation. I still unabashedly love her. She made everything she could of herself, and was a brilliant business woman and artist, if not singer. Her recent troubles sadden me, because they reflect some of the many inherent weaknesses of such a dynamic generation. Disconnect, lack of fulfillment despite reaching your dreams, and shocking criticism from onlookers. In the end, after doing what you wanted, and doing it better than anyone else, there is still a feeling of emptiness. I understand that. I just don't know what the answer is. I hope and pray for Britney to find recovery - and show us that our flaws do not always result in tragedy, just growth.

Duuude, I live in the getto ...
Dear Members of the GSB CommunityI want to report to all of you concerning an attempted robbery on the premises of the Hyde Park Center. Yesterday, 8 November 2006 at 3:12 PM, a lone male entered the ARAMARK offices on the first floor at the HPC and committed a robbery. The robber accosted the ARAMARK manager and threatened her with a screwdriver. The perpetrator was later apprehended along with his accomplice as they tried to leave the scene in an automobile. The University of Chicago and City of Chicago Police responded immediately and participated in the apprehension. No one was injured during the event. No GSB students or staff were involved.
It is important for everyone to remember that the Hyde Park Center and the Gleacher Center are open to the public. It is everyone's responsibility to be aware of their surroundings and be careful. Report anything you may see that appears suspicious and allow security to investigate and handle the situation. University of Chicago Police can be reached at (773) 702-8181 or 123 from any campus phone.
